my
timeline is right now 80% people livecommenting the World Cup of Shame. almost all of them spent half this year criticizing the event and calling for boycotts. WTF?!
I am baffled and, honestly, very angry. how can I feel trust in case I/we need those people to mobilize towards a common goal when they can't even do something as simple as not watching something on TV? it's actually even worse, since they are all engaging with it in a public forum that enables the organizers of the event to use said engagement to validate this shitshow as a "sucess" after it happens.
it's the same thing that's still happening with Harry Potter fans, but in a much larger scale.
it makes me deeply sad because it makes me feel worthless as a queer, migrant person from the global south. people really rather "have fun" than care about people like me or even other people in general.
we have a saying in Brazil that goes: "football is the opium of the masses". this disgusting event is the proof that the saying is true and it serves capitalism very very well.
I am really really sad with all this and this is another thing that makes me want to leave
for good. also makes me hate this whole world a bit more.
